Testing far & wide!!! +pics

The TMK Time Trial squad had a flurry of activity on Saturday to mark the end of the main TT season with events local and not so local...

15 riders got to the start line in the North Bucks RC’s final club event of the year on the Stoke Hammond bypass, 8 of which were TMK. The early morning event was blessed with sunshine but it was cool with an unusual north-easterly wind which meant slightly tougher conditions on the return leg. Ian Marshall riding the course as a rare solo entrant, having ridden all the year’s events on the course on the tandem, came home 2nd with a course PB of 22:36. Then it was a quick dash over to the P613 at Andover, Hampshire, for an afternoon tandem 10 mile TT with Kev Stokes… (See below) The fast improving Steve Torley was just behind in 3rd with 22:39. The Northern TT contingent of Simon Cannings, Katherine Dilkes and Clive Faine made the long journey up north to the Lake District for the Kent Valley RC open 10 mile TT on the super fast L1015 course, scene of Bradley Wiggins’ 17:58 national comp record. With lighter winds compared to down south, the course didn’t disappoint with PB’s for Clive and Katherine of 23:06 and 25:43 respectively and Simon still suffering a little from his recent illness but still with a quick time of 20:43

On the same afternoon in the Andover Wheelers 10 mile open event on the P613, Helen Boatman, riding the solo womens event was 2nd overall with a slightly disappointing 23:00, with Kev Stokes and Ian Marshall (Ian having already raced in the morning!) getting yet another 2nd in the tandem event with a 19:16, just 1 second outside their PB set just over a month ago in Cambridgeshire. Again the wind wasn’t favourable with only a slightly easier return leg. Its well known in testing circles that the course is slightly “long” at 10.11 miles, so a PB would have been theirs otherwise…
