Marin Enduro Series - Round 3 Thetford
Lynne Coldray 4th – 2hr Enduro
Alan Coldray 14th – 4 hr Enduro
The conditions were much better than expected – gale force wind and torrential rain had been forecasted for Thetford, however no rain, very mild but rather windy.
As ever at Thetford the course was relatively flat with some fantastic single track, fire road and a bomb hole. The course held up really well and there was only one particularly muddy section, which really did test strength and balance. Each lap was just under 7 miles
Alan rode the 4hr race choosing to complete it on his 29” single speed, as you can only do on a single speed over 4 hrs he rode a steady race slowly wheeling in much of the field to finish in 14th position out of 45 starters
I was in the 2 hr race and what a race it turned out to be for 4th, 5th and 6th place. Going into lap 2 I was in 4th place, 8 seconds behind 3rd and 25 seconds in front of 5th. Myself and Linda broom of Activ Trek played cat and mouse for the whole of lap 2, I was getting passed her on the single track and she was taking the advantage on the fire road, I just completed (3 seconds) the lap before her. Into the final lap and I don’t think I have ever been in such a close race 50 seconds between 3 of us!! and approx 40 mins to go. I just went for it, heart rate off the scale, style out of the window (some may say I never had any!) and I don’t think I have ever been so aggressive overtaking, it was all worth it as I collapsed over the line in 4th place 1 min 48 seconds in front of Linda in 4th place and 8 mins 30 behind the winner. This puts me in 3rd place in the series overall.
The 4th round (already full) is on Feb 10th with the 3rd series position up for grabs to many riders.
