Neolithic Marathon and Half Marathon, May 4 2008

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust are organising an annual multi-terrain marathon and half marathon taking place on Sunday 4th May 2008.

The Neolithic Marathon is a 26 mile route that takes competitors through some of the most beautiful landscapes in Wiltshire.  The linear course is multi-terrain and can be dry and dusty, or wet and muddy, depending on the weather.  The route starts at the historic stones of Avebury.  Runners then go through the landscape of the Vale of Pewsey, into the Avon Valley and then up Redhorn Hill. From here they cross into the contrasting scenery of Salisbury Plain, an area not usually open to the public.  The route then ends at world-famous Stonehenge.  The route is rural and is free from traffic. The Half Marathon starts just after Redhorn Hill and finishes at Stonehenge.

There are frequent water stations, baggage storage, and light refreshments at Redhorn Hill and Stonehenge.  Due to the linear nature of the route there is a free bus shuttle that runs between the start points and the main event car park at Stonehenge.
