Thetford Marin Winter Series Round 4

Lynne Coldray  5th        Overall Series Position 4th

Alan Coldray  16th         Overall Series Position  11th

The climax of the ever-popular Marin Winter Series took place at Thetford, with the hundreds of riders, being treated to a fantastic finish befitting of this cracking series.

Once more it was a great course providing 7 miles of fast flowing singletrack, with a couple of grinding climbs and some technical sections. On top of that, a rare and early dose of warm spring sun put the icing on the cake.

It was all up for grabs in the final round of the series, with many of the riders being able to get a podium series finish. With that in mind our race took off quickly and I really struggled on the first lap trying to keep up with the leaders, hitting a tree at one point. I seemed to go backwards more and more as the lap went on being over taken by a number of racers. Going into the second lap I managed to get going again and over took the ones who had caught me but I never caught site of the leaders again. As the race continued I got stronger but was never in contention for a podium spot, finishing 5th overall a disappointing final race however a pleasing 4th in the overall series.

Alan decided to race with gears this time rather than his single speed, the largest field so far in the men’s event with 64 riders. He started well back in the pack (as normal) but enjoyed moving through the field steadily as the race went on. His 29er handled the single track really well however he did give himself a few scary moments with fast approaching trees. He was never going to catch the leaders but gained an overall pleasing 16th place. A final series place of 11th – a good result
