Cross Country NPS Round 1

Lynne Coldray get's 2nd at Thetford

This years Cross Country NPS got off to a great start in Thetford. Hundreds of  competitors travelled from all corners of the UK and Ireland to contest 21 races in a day of fast and furious action, utilising a crafty 10km course, incorporating all that Thetford is famous for: slick singletrack weaving relentlessly through hundreds of trees; blasts of fire road; plus a couple of tricky and strength sapping. Even though Thetford is the flat one there was 233m of climbing on each 10km lap

This was my first vets race and that does feel old. A small field, only 8 of us however the initial few km were exciting with 2nd, 3rd and 4th all vying for position, I had the speed in the technical sections but was getting caught on the fire road, eventually at the bomb hole I managed to get some distance on 3rd and 4th place really going for it on the single track. The race settled down and we kept our positions although on the final lap I nearly got caught within 2km of the finish, my race head had switched off and I was cruising to the finish until I looked back and saw that Sarah from Salsa racing catching me, off I went again to get 2nd place.

As ever at Thetford a great race.
