Hillingdon Triathlon
Mark Kleanthous and Dave Chapman competed in the Hillingdon triathlon on Sunday which unlike other triathlons is a swim run bike event.
Sunday 25th - Hillingdon Triathlon Series -
RACE 1: 700m (open water) / 6km run / 25km bike
The series is probably one of the oldest Triathlon series in the UK, the first event was held 20 years ago back in 1988.
Heavy CONTINOUS rain with localised flooding made the run and cycle challenging.
The unluckiest athlete of the day had his wet suit zip break just before the start so did the swim in the chilly 12 degree lake without a wetsuit then had a puncture on the bike and failed to finish.
Several other athletes also had punctures
Dave Wardle (race organiser) said he had never seen worse conditions for the last 60 Triathlons that have been held at the Hillingdon outdoor activity centre!
Mark Kleanthous was in 9th place with 3 miles to go but had to stop at temporary traffic lights being caught by 3 riders in the closing stages to finish 12th
Dave was in 3rd place overall when he had mechanical problems and was unable to finish. His next event is the World age groups in Canada.
Winner.
