Road cycling - race reports...
The chaps on the road have been have putting in some great times of late and re-establishing club records that dated back to the 80's!!!
In the Saturday afternoon API Metrow 50 mile TT event on the fast E2/50C course over near Newmarket, new recruit Helen Boatman broke Gill Simpson's 1982 record by some 24 minutes (!!!) to claim a new club record for senior women, and bag a new PB with 1:59:37. Vet Geoff Perry in the same event despite a 3 minute late start and a stop on the way round to see where he was (!!!) finished with 2:01:11 and beat the long standing 1982 record by Phil Ashbourn, by just over 2 minutes.
The following morning, Jason Gurney and Ian Marshall made the long journey over to Cirencester for the Cheltenham and County CC 25 miles TT event on the U46/B, which was where Jason recently did a 20:03 on the shortened 10 mile version of the course. Again, light winds prevailed and Jason came in 4th with a new PB of 51:59 with Ian recording a seasons best of 55:50 and eclipsing Ian Bunkers vet record from 15 years ago by 1:27.
Ian has also been in action at the LVRC Tuesday evening Bowl road races with 2 consecutive 3rd places in 2 weeks in the A & B cat events. Also figuring in the placings were hard charging Campbell Noon, who instigated a number of attacks, together with Adrian Cox and Andy Burnett. In the C & D events, National over 50's Champion Pete Smith and Phil Murphy again have been figuring in the placings.
Next outing for the TT squad is this Saturday in the Spirit RT 10 mile TT event on Leighton Buzzard bypass, with squad members in the solo and tandem events...
