Triathlon
Introduction
Triathletes from TeamMK compete in competitions ranging from local "Big Cow" events to international events such as the World Championships and the Hawaii Ironman. All standards are catered for, from beginners to those trying to reach the top of the podium in elite races.
History
The first triathlon club in Milton Keynes was formed in the 80's with many members based around Newport Pagnell. In the 90's the club merged with the MK cycling club and by 2001 had become TeamMK - a club with a handful of star performers and a solid core of regular competitors that give the club a friendly, supportive atmosphere.
Achievements 2007
2007 was notable for two special events. Firstly Ironman Switzerland in which over 30 TeamMK members completed the course in times ranging from 10-16 hours. We were ably supported by our very own bike mechanics, masseurs and plenty of supporters. Secondly 28 members competed in the National Triathlon Relays at Holme Pierrepoint in Nottingham. We had a 2nd in the senior competition and 7th in the veterans. Other events that we attended included several "xterras", the Ben Nevis "Big Triathlon" as well as other olympic and sprint triathlons.
Aims 2008
In 2008 a large number are already signed up for Ironman Austria. The Relays should feature again and we hope to get squads of 10 + people with club support to a number of other events as well, possibly including the World Duathlon at Rimini in September. The event calendar should eventually show details on the main Triathlons we are targetting in 2008. In the meantime here are the dates of some of the key events our members are taking part in:
